# Read the Analytics revenue chart

> Inspect revenue points, understand grouped periods and distinguish order volume from category item quantities.

Use the revenue chart to compare sales over time. Read the period and selected category alongside the amount: moving over the chart changes what the headline represents.

## Who can do this?

**Owners and Managers** can open this shop-wide report. Staff access to personal reporting does not include this analysis.

## Where to do it

1. In the web app, open **Analytics** and choose **Revenue & Orders**.
2. Confirm the shop and select **All categories** for the whole-shop chart.
3. Choose the reporting period at the top of the page.
4. Move the pointer across the chart. The headline changes to the selected point’s amount, with its date or date span underneath. The detail box shows **Total turnover** and **Volume**.
5. Move the pointer outside the chart to restore the total for the selected reporting period.

Changing the period or loading new points clears the selection. Hovering shows information; it does not open orders or change any sales records.

## Understand the time groups

For **All categories**, the chart groups its included data as follows:

| Reporting period | Each point combines |
| ------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| Last 7 days or Last month | One day |
| Last 3 months | One Monday-based week |
| Last year | One calendar month |
| All time | One calendar month, with the date-label limitation below |

The first and last groups may cover only part of the week or month because the selected reporting period cuts through them. A full week or month shown beneath the headline does not add sales from outside that period.

This differs from the Overview dashboard, where repeated week labels can still refer to daily points. All categories also omits intervals with no returned sales rows; a connecting line does not supply a missing daily result.

## Read amounts and volume

With **All categories**, amounts sum the recorded totals of orders currently paid or completed, filtered to the shop’s currency. **Volume** counts those orders. Orders in a refund state are excluded, so later refunds can change earlier periods. The order’s completion time is used when available, otherwise submission or creation time.

Selecting a category changes both measures: revenue uses that category’s included item-line totals, while **Volume** counts item quantities. Three coffees in one order count as three units in the category view. Current item-category membership is used, so moving items can change earlier comparisons.

The category view can include zero-filled intervals that the All categories view omits. Its **All time** grouping can also change from months to years when the included order history spans more than three years. Do not compare chart shapes without checking the view and period.

## Understand the moving average

**Moving average** smooths nearby plotted revenue amounts to make the shape easier to follow. It is not a forecast, an extra revenue total or a fixed number of calendar days. Read the selected point’s turnover for the actual plotted amount, rather than estimating it from the smoother line.

## Platform and market notes

In the mobile app, tap near a plotted point, or press and hold then slide across the chart. Read the selected amount and date; release a drag to restore the period total. Labels and the moving-average line appear during selection. Mobile **Turnover** cards keep their own [reporting periods](/en/overview/dashboard-reporting-periods-and-kpis).

Check the shop and currency before comparing locations. The All categories reporting boundaries use UTC, while daily revenue is grouped by the shop’s local date; boundary-day comparisons can therefore differ from local calendar totals.

## Troubleshooting

In **All time** with **All categories**, monthly points can show weekday labels and a date span extending to year-end. Use **Last year** for monthly date comparisons instead of relying on that span.

A dash during loading or an error is not a zero result. Use retry when an error appears. If the chart is empty, check the period and category, refresh and contact **Tapp support** if the result remains unexpected.
