# Create a percentage or fixed promotion

> Build a reviewed percentage or fixed-value offer with valid scope, timing, and redemption rules.

Create a promotion when you want Tapp to reduce an eligible order by a percentage or a fixed amount. The three-step wizard separates the offer, schedule, and launch rules and shows a summary before activation.

## Who can do this?

**Owners and Managers** can perform this flow. Staff may see a link in some navigation states, but the promotion API does not grant administration access.

## Where to do it

Use **Promotions** in the Management web app for the labels in this guide. Equivalent promotion screens also exist in the Management mobile app. POS actions happen in the cart; guest-facing effects appear in the guest web store.

## Steps

1. From **Promotions**, select **New promotion** and enter a clear internal and guest-facing name.
2. Choose **Percentage** or **Fixed amount**. Enter a value greater than zero; a percentage cannot exceed 100. Fixed values use the selected store's currency.
3. Choose the whole menu, categories, or individual items. Targeted modes require at least one selection.
4. Complete the schedule and launch steps. Review the summary, including minimum spend, caps, application mode, guest visibility, and any code.
5. Select the launch action. Tapp creates the discount and promotion, activates it, and creates the campaign code when the chosen mode requires one.

## Platform notes

Web and mobile use the same promotion and authorization rules from the API. The guest app lists only guest-visible, currently applicable offers; voucher links can carry a code into the basket. A control shown on one platform never expands the server-enforced role.

## Market notes

The flow is the same for GB and Germany. Money is displayed in the store currency, and schedules are evaluated in the store's local time zone. Check the selected store, currency, date, and time rather than relying on country assumptions.

This guide reflects the product on 17 July 2026. The API-enforced role and saved promotion state are authoritative; local previews are guidance and the server validates the rules again when the change is persisted.

## Troubleshooting

* If **Continue** is disabled, check the name, value, and scope selection on the current step. For a targeted offer, an empty category or item selection is invalid.
* If launch fails after part of the process completed, return to the Promotions hub before retrying. Do not create repeated offers until you have checked whether the promotion or code already exists.
