# Manage special opening hours

> Override the regular schedule for a dated range, including closures and split opening periods.

Special hours are dated exceptions to the regular weekly schedule. Use them for a one-day closure, an event, or a temporary schedule without rewriting the recurring hours.

## Who can do this?

Owners and Managers can use this workflow. Permission is always evaluated for the selected shop. A role without write access cannot bypass the restriction by opening a route directly; API authorization remains authoritative.

## Where

On **Shop overview**, scroll below regular opening hours to **Special hours**. Select Venue or Kitchen before adding, editing, or deleting an exception.

## Steps

1. Choose **Add**, then set a start date, end date, and a meaningful reason.
2. Turn on Closed for a full closure, or leave it off and enter one or more opening periods.
3. Save with the check control. Existing exceptions can be edited with the pencil or selected for deletion.
4. Confirm the displayed date range, hours, and reason after saving.

## Platform notes

The form requires both dates and a reason. The end cannot precede the start; open exceptions require complete, non-zero, non-overlapping periods. Exception ranges of the same hours type may not overlap. The API serializes writes and records the range as one merchant-facing exception even when multiple period rows are stored.

## Market notes

The same controls serve GB and DE. Dates and labels are localized to the shop, while public holidays come from its configured holiday country. A special exception wins over regular weekday or holiday hours for dates in its range.

## Troubleshooting

If saving reports an overlap, edit or delete the existing exception that intersects the requested dates instead of creating a second one. If an open exception fails, check every period. Deleting requires confirmation; after deletion, the effective schedule falls back to the applicable regular or inherited hours.
