A POS-enabled device can appear in the store’s POS-device results and receive eligible payment dispatches. Marking a device for POS is an explicit capability flag, not proof that its hardware supports every payment method.

Who can do this?

Owners and Managers and Staff can use the parts described here. Store-wide management of other devices remains limited to Owners and Managers; self-service for the current device and read-only list access have different scopes. API authorization is authoritative.

Where

Owners and Managers can toggle POS for any store device from the web or native store-device list. Any signed-in role can toggle POS mode for its own current device in the Management Native App profile settings.

Steps

  1. Identify the exact device by name, platform, and last seen.
  2. For another team device, use an Owner/Manager device list and toggle its POS control.
  3. For your own mobile installation, open profile settings and toggle POS mode on the current-device card.
  4. Wait for the list to refresh and confirm the device appears in the POS group or POS-device picker.
  5. Test a controlled dispatch only after the target app is online and ready.

Platform notes

The API has separate self-update and store-manager update operations. Store POS-device listing filters to is_pos_device = true and is readable by all store roles. POS mode also reveals Terminal mode on the current native device. Removing POS status makes the device unavailable to new POS-target selection but does not rewrite completed orders.

Market notes

The flag behaves identically in GB and DE. Actual Tap to Pay availability depends on platform, device support, user enablement, and shop-level payment settings. QR and other remote methods follow their own prerequisites.

Troubleshooting

If the toggle fails, confirm whether you are changing your own row or need Owner/Manager access for another device. If a marked device is absent from a picker, refresh the target list and check that the correct shop, POS flag, and online app are used. Do not assume last seen means a payment session is ready.
