Create a sellable menu item or update an existing one from the Management Admin App.

Who can do this?

The create and full-update APIs authorize Owners and Managers. Staff can view items and change stock status through a narrower endpoint, but cannot create or edit all item details.

Where to do it

Open Menu. Choose Add item, or select an existing item to edit it.

Add or edit

  1. Upload an optional image.
  2. Enter the item name and choose a category.
  3. Enter the price including the shop’s applicable consumption tax.
  4. Choose a VAT/tax code from the market-aware list. Do not leave the required choice unresolved.
  5. Add optional description, tags, cost, preparation duration or variations where the form offers them.
  6. Set guest visibility according to whether guests should see the item online.
  7. Save. When editing and changing category, Tapp moves the existing item before applying the remaining updates.
The form protects against leaving with unsaved changes. If save fails, it keeps the editing context so you can correct the problem and retry. Category, title, a numeric price and VAT selection form the required core. The optional item cost is separate from the customer price. Because image upload happens after the item exists, refresh Menu after an image error and check for the created item before retrying.

Platform notes

Saved items appear in staff POS. Guest ordering receives only items and categories allowed by guest visibility and availability. Images are uploaded after the core item exists, so an image-upload failure does not justify creating a duplicate item.

Market notes

The tax label and VAT code list come from the selected store market. GB and Germany have distinct codes even when a percentage looks similar. The price field is tax-inclusive; optional item cost is treated separately as an ex-tax per-unit cost for analytics.

Troubleshooting

If save fails, keep the form open and correct the reported field before retrying. If only the image upload fails, refresh Menu and check whether the core item already exists before creating anything again.
