Upload an existing menu and let Tapp create draft categories and items, then review every generated value before relying on it for sales.

Who can do this?

The offering-file APIs authorize Owners and Managers. Staff cannot upload, start, cancel or delete menu import files.

Where to do it

Open Menu and choose the AI upload/import action, or use the menu step in owner onboarding.

Import files

  1. Choose one or more menu files. The current picker accepts JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, PDF and DOCX.
  2. Keep each file at or below 10 MB. Unsupported or oversized files are marked with an error before processing.
  3. Add more files when a menu spans several pages.
  4. Select Process … with AI.
  5. Watch each row move through upload, pending and processing states.
  6. When at least one file completes, continue and review the categories and items created by the backend.
  7. Correct names, category placement, prices, VAT codes, visibility, variations and descriptions as needed.
You can cancel a Pending or Processing file from its remove action. Resolved files can be deleted. A Failed or Cancelled file does not prove that other files in the same run failed. Status is tracked per file: Uploading is transfer, New is uploaded but not started, Pending/Processing is active analysis, and Completed/Failed/Cancelled is terminal. After completion, Tapp refreshes menu queries. Inspect for duplicates before importing the same pages again.

Accuracy safeguards

AI import is an accelerator, not an approval. Compare generated data with the source menu, especially decimal prices and tax choices. Do not publish or sell items until a person has reviewed the import.

Platform and market notes

Import runs from management web. Completed items then feed POS and eligible guest menus. The parser can detect content, but market-specific VAT selection still needs human verification for GB or Germany.

Troubleshooting

Treat each file status separately: one failed or cancelled file does not mean the whole upload failed. Before retrying the same pages, inspect completed categories for duplicates and remove or correct the failed file as appropriate.
